What you'll learn

Estimated time: 15 minutes

By the end of this lesson you'll be able to:

Next steps

(3 minutes)

This video brings together everything you've learned and challenges you to put it into practice immediately.

Key takeaways

  • Start with one real task this week — pick something waiting for you and use it as your practice ground.
  • Apply the full 4D Framework: Delegation → Description → Discernment → Diligence.
  • It's a loop, not a line — you may flow back and forth between competencies. That's AI fluency in action.
  • Use blueprints to guide your first attempts — step-by-step guides for common business tasks.
  • Share with your network: use your certificate to start conversations about AI fluency with your team and partners.

Exercise

Final assignment

Before completing this course, choose one real task from your work to tackle with AI support this week.

Step 1: Select your task

Pick something concrete that's waiting for you:

  • A competitor scan or market research on pricing, packaging, or positioning in your area
  • A service page, sales email sequence, or customer-facing copy that needs drafting or revision
  • Sales, booking, or customer data that needs summarization or a first-pass analysis
  • A social post, newsletter, or promotional campaign that needs a first draft
  • Employee onboarding docs or training checklists that need updating
  • A pitch, loan application narrative, or internal plan for a new service line or expansion

Step 2: Apply the 4D Framework

Work through each competency:

  • Delegation: What parts benefit from AI support? What needs your expertise and domain knowledge? Are there customer data or proprietary information that must stay out of AI tools?
  • Description: Share your business context — what you sell, who your customers are, your brand voice, and how you want AI to approach the task. Be specific about tone, format, and the level of polish you need.
  • Discernment: Evaluate what you get back against what you actually know about your business and your market. Check all prices, claims, and competitor references. Identify gaps, inaccuracies, or made-up details and refine your approach.
  • Diligence: Take full responsibility for the final result. Verify accuracy against your own records, your website, and your actual pricing. Ensure it meets any disclosure requirements, industry-specific rules, or your own internal standards. Be transparent about AI assistance where it matters — with your team, your customers, or your partners.

Step 3: Reflect on your experience

After completing the task, consider:

  • What worked well? What would you do differently next time?
  • Which competencies felt natural? Which need more practice?
  • Were there moments where AI output required significant correction?
  • How will you apply this approach to future tasks in your role?
  • What guardrails or best practices would you recommend to colleagues?

Continue your learning

Blueprints: Access step-by-step guides for common professional tasks at claude.com/resources/use-cases. Many of these guides — covering research, writing, data analysis, and workflow optimization — can be directly adapted to small business applications such as competitor research, marketing copy, sales data analysis, and customer communications.

Resources: You have access to the 4D Framework guide, a key terminology cheat sheet, and all course exercises and reflection prompts. Consider keeping a running doc of the prompts and workflows that work well for your business so you're not starting from scratch each time — and so anyone on your team can pick them up.

Deepen your understanding: Anthropic's AI Fluency: Framework & Foundations course provides deeper exploration of the 4D Framework and will strengthen your ability to apply these competencies as the tasks you hand off get more complex.

Stay current: The rules around AI in business are evolving fast. The FTC is actively developing guidance on AI-generated marketing, reviews, and customer communications, and state-level privacy laws continue to shift. Stay informed about policies that may affect how you use AI in customer-facing work, and revisit the principles from this course as the landscape changes.

Lesson reflection

  • What's the one task you're committing to tackle with AI this week, and why?
  • How has your understanding of what AI can do for your business changed since you started?
  • Who in your team or network would benefit most from developing their own AI fluency?

What's next

Congratulations! You'll be able to earn a certificate of completion in the next lesson after answering a few quick quiz questions.
